An internship can provide undergraduates with an opportunity to explore career possibilities, apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges, and develop professional skills and habits.聽MCAS students who have completed courses through the second semester of freshman year are eligible to seek a one-credit pass/fail course for an unpaid/paid internship. Students are responsible for securing the internship themselves. We recommend partnering with the Career Center to explore opportunities.
Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates are eligible to earn up to three pass/fail internship credits to be counted toward their 120 credits required for graduation, so long as no more than 18 total pass/fail credits are being counted toward graduation. These internship credits do not count toward major, minor, or University core requirements.
Registration for the one-credit course is done through the MCAS Associate Deans� Office and must be initiated prior to the last day to add/drop a course in the Associate Deans� Office.聽If the internship is approved, students will be enrolled in the correct course number based on the semester in which they are enrolled to receive one credit for the internship. If enrolled in an internship during a fall or spring semester, it will be at no extra cost to the student. Those who are enrolled in their first summer internship will be enrolled in UNAS4197 with no fee attached to the course. For any subsequent summer internships, a student will be enrolled in UNAS4198 and UNAS4199, respectively, and each credit will be charged to their student account.
Step-by-Step Guide
To be approved and receive one credit for an internship, MCAS students must:
Commit to a minimum of 50 hours to the internship experience.
Have not previously earned a total of three, one-credit internships and/or received 18 pass/fail credits.
Must be an internship that one has not completed before; the same internship cannot be counted twice for credit.
Complete the online聽 for the semester the internship is taking place (before the last day to add/drop a course in the Associate Deans' Office). Must also upload a signed copy of the Internship Information and Supervisor Approval Form.
Make sure one internship supervisor submits the Supervisor Final Evaluation Form聽to mcasinternship@bc.edu upon completion of the internship. This is due by the date by which temporary "I" (Incomplete) grades for Morrissey courses must be resolved: March 1 for fall semester courses, August 1 for spring semester courses, and October 1 for summer courses.

Yes, international students are eligible to have an internship in the United States if they are approved for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) through the Office of International Students and Scholars.
CPT authorization allows international students to take part in paid or un-paid off-campus training (such as temporary employment, internship, practicum, field work, clinical) which is directly related to their major and required AND/OR for credit towards their degree program. Upon approval of CPT, students will be issued a new I-20 form with a CPT authorization.
The Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) is in charge of making sure students are compliant with student Visa laws. This includes completing Curricular Practical Training authorization (CPT).聽
Please note, international students must request CPT approval through the before they can be authorized to work in the U.S. Without a CPT application sent to mcasinternship@bc.edu, the internship application will remain pending until a CPT application is submitted.

One-credit internships are graded as pass/fail. Your grade will appear on your transcript at the conclusion of the semester as long as we have received your internship supervisor final evaluation.
Please have your supervisor fill out the Supervisor FInal Evaluation Form聽and send it directly to mcasinternship@bc.edu. We ask that this is completed by the final day of classes for the internship semester.

Students cannot receive the one MCAS internship credit if already enrolled in the Communication Department Internship Practicum Seminar course.
Yes, if the need arises, you may withdraw from the internship course you have been enrolled in for that semester.
